Natural solution to prevent histomonosis in turkeys

A look back at our participation in Turkey Times 2024

From 6 to 8 March 2024, the world of the turkey industry gathered at “Turkey Science and Production”, a leading event in the field, held in Chester, England. This annual symposium is a crucial platform for professionals to discuss the latest advances and present innovative solutions for the turkey industry.

At the heart of this major event, our team of poultry experts, represented by Anne MAHIEU and Jean-Marie WATIER, raised interest by unveiling FORKEY, a natural solution for turkey health. The scientific poster presented below, entitled “Efficacy of herbal and aromatic components in vitro suggests prevention of histomonosis and enteritis problems in turkeys”, highlights the details of the product.

FORKEY: objectives and results

The main objective behind the design of FORKEY was clear: to combat the main parasitic threats affecting the intestinal health of turkeys, notably histomonosis and coccidiosis, while preserving the beneficial intestinal microflora. To achieve this ambitious goal, our team collaborated with three different research teams, each focusing on a specific aspect of the product.

In the first phase, in vitro tests were carried out on bioactives against histomonas, showing promising results similar to dimetridazole. The second phase focused on avian coccidiosis, identifying three key compounds to inhibit the parasite cycle. Finally, the last phase succeeded in selecting active ingredients effective against bacterial infections while preserving the beneficial intestinal flora.

The overall in vitro results were impressive, demonstrating FORKEY’s ability to provide an effective alternative solution for preventing the development of histomonosis, breaking the parasitic cycle of Eimeria and achieving an intestinal antiseptic effect to combat bacterial infections, in particular that caused by C. perfringens. The introduction of FORKEY to the turkey, guinea fowl and game birds marks an important milestone in the search for sustainable, natural animal health solutions. Its potential to reduce the incidence of disease while maintaining the overall gut health of turkeys opens up new opportunities for more efficient and responsible poultry production.

For many years, a number of turkey production organisations around the world have used FORKEY without encountering any cases of histomonosis.
